Malamaal Weekly

I tried to watch this atrocious movie last night, only because it was made by Priyadarshan... and what a disaster it was!!!! could not sit through it at all... so gave up. It seemed like a rehash of the classic Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron... OMG remember that movie??? It is so hilarious........ I need to watch it again......I love that movie.... Our directors need to look back at the older movies for inspiration (the real inspiration not stealing ideas!!!).... Remember all those Amol Palekar, Deepti Naval, Farukh Sheikh, Utpal Datt era of comedies..... Just thinking about it makes me laugh :-) I need to rent all those movies this summer and recharge my batteries for Fall!!!!

Ever Been Stereotyped ?????

Doesn't it make you angry when people assume things about you ??? It used to make me really mad.... And I could never understand why they said the things that they did.... For instance I was traveling in the train with my mom and we bumped into one of my father's colleagues in the ladies compartment. I had just passed my 10th grade and was enjoying college life..... This lady spoke to my mom for a bit and then asked me where I had managed to get admission for 11th? When I said "Kelkar college", she immediately asked me "Commerce?". And I said "No, Science." After that I did not say a word to her.... But come on, just because I was wearing pink tights, that does not disqualify me from being a science major at Kelkar college..... So what if I was not the typical soda glass type (there I become judgmental now..... but that's what I was led to believe!!!) ?? Another instance was a little more recent... Two years back I was in India attending my sis

Hopeless or Hopeful????

So, I never really dug into the old boxes to look for the cassettes and the walkman.... Instead I just decided to listen to the songs that I was able to download. I think I have most of them.... As I was enjoying the music I realized that most of my favorite songs are my favs not only because of the music, but mainly because of the lyrics..... All those poems at the beginning of each song in Gaarva are just wonderful....Also another thing I realized was what a hopeless romantic I was..... Or was I???? Why should I call myself hopeless??? Rather I think I am hopeful..... Who coined this term "hopeless romantic"???? I think most romantic people actually make life easier/more beautiful by concentrating on the positive and believing that everything is "Oh so wonderful"!!!! So let's change the term..... I am not a hopeless romantic, rather I am a hopeful romantic

Gaarva

Out of nowhere today I was reminded of Gaarva (remember Milind Ingle's melodious Marathi songs???).....For those of you who don't know Milind Ingle, he is the one who sang the famous Chui Mui Si Tum ... So I tried to find the songs online. I found some of his songs online, but not all of them were from the same album, which kind of disappointed me a little.... When I was in engineering school, I used to spend more than an hour to get to my school and another hour to get back. The best way to spend time in the train was to listen to music and I had my favorites..... The Akai walkman was a life saver those days..... Although the choice of songs kept changing every month, there were a couple of albums, I remember carrying in my bag all the time (along with some apples and Bourbon biscuits!!!!!). So anyways, these all time favs were Thakshak, Sapnay, Pyaar Mein Kabhi Kabhi (I was crazy about Shaan, actually still am!!!), Maachis and Gaarva....... I still have these audio cassettes

Students as Customers

A professor at Syracuse U walked out of the class, when a student in the front row started texting during the class....Of course a big issue, articles were written, comments were made, so on and so forth. Basically the professor (a highly respectable, tenured faculty) thought it was disrespectful and was clearly stated in class policies as not allowed. One of the students who commented on this said that he pays $30k to go to school and he has a right to decide whether to pay attention or not and blah blah blah.... I would have been mortified as a student to even think in that direction. While a lot can be said about whether what the professor did was right or wrong, there is no doubt that what the student did was wrong. What I found more shocking was the other student's audacity.... Well, yes you are paying a lot of money to go to school, but you are forgetting that the so called product/service that you are buying is "learning", which you are buying because you don't

A few weeks of appreciation

Looks like these are some great weeks for me. After the lovely poem that I posted here sometime back, got another one (rather a song).... Moreover this one is the official song of Louisiana, as it was written by Louisiana State Governor and country singer Jimmy Davis. It's called You are my sunshine. Here are a few lines: You Are My Sunshine My only sunshine. You make me happy When skies are grey. You'll never know, dear, How much I love you. Please don't take my sunshine away Lovely, isn't it???
