Military Appreciation Day @ GGC

Image
Last week on the 21st of October, GGC celebrated Military Appreciation Day on campus. They urged everyone to wear yellow, distributed yellow ribbons, brought in military officers to display their helicopters and tanks, etc... I missed the best part, when they flew in those helicopters on campus. But I did get a chance later on to observe them and talk to some officers there. The smaller of the two is the OH-58 Kiowa. It is an observation helicopter, while the bigger one is UH-60 Black Hawk. It is a utility helicopter and can carry up to 12 people. It was exciting to see these things up close, I don't think I will ever get a chance to see them again, at least not this close....

Visiting home

So obviously Anu and I were talking (when she was here last weekend) about going home and shopping and enjoying and all those things... Thanks to mom, we always dream big and perfect!!! There is never plan B.... In this case it means, visiting India in December at the same time and spending a lot of time together shopping and @ Sarla's (I guess only Thane females know the significance of this!!!). I am sure as we will realize soon, many of these plans will fall apart... sadly :-(... But I guess we should be able to pull something off (IF our vacation overlaps)...  It is interesting.... The first time I saw Sundara Mana Madhe Bharli in Thane and I heard some of the things people said, I was thinking... "These people have no idea how much India has changed". And now I feel like one of those people. Anu and I were talking about buying this and buying that from India and how it would be so much cheaper and I always talk about how our culture is different, how the education s

Nice Weekend

So finally my li'l sis managed to visit me.... It's been such a long time... a year since we last saw each other!!! When I was a student we used to meet once every 6 months, but now it's almost impossible to do that. But anyway, her visit this weekend gave me an excuse to force myself to take a break. I almost ditched my work on Friday, came back around lunch time and then we went shopping n eating, just like we used to do in Thane. I always loved doing that, whether we bought anything or not!!! I think I finally managed to make her a sushi fan.... Saturday was all for Global mall, chaat, biryani and dosa... I know, yummy right??? The chaat was super good...so was everything else.... At night we were just lying down and talking to each other and that just reminded me so much of my mom n grandma... They would always keep talking, sitting right next to me when I was sleeping.. It used to drive me crazy.... But now I know why!!!!

No Time For Anything!!!

I have been running in and out of classes and meetings all week long. If I am not in a class or a meeting, I am in my office talking to students or on the phone. Last week was so crazy that on Friday I wore brown shoes because I was planning on wearing brown pants and only after getting to school I realized that I wore dark grey pants!!!! hahahaha... I know.... One of my older students was trying to convince me that my gold top was earth tone and so were my shoes, so I was fine :-) For the first time I am behind on grading (Oh... I hate that!!!!)... But I am happy, we are making progress in class.... I made my freshmen students do a search on hard disks (how to buy one online....) And they were all happy that now they won't go to Best Buy and spend double the money for anything !!!!!! Yeah... Some of those kids are really sweet... And finally the Asian Awareness Week planning is coming along great.. Hopefully we'll have a great week... If only we could screen a Desi movie for f
