Old Friends

I always try to have fun wherever I go. I never miss India when I am here and I never miss US when I am back back home..... But every once in a while I think of all the things I used to do (that's where this blog comes in picture)..... Last night I had this dream that I was sitting with all of my school friends somewhere that looked like Dombivli railway station's huge bridge and I was having fun..... Some of the faces that I saw in that dream were not even my close friends.... But seriously school days were the best of my life. For 3 years (8th, 9th and 10th) I was in an all girls class. Now you can imagine the cat fighting and back biting that might have occurred. Even then I had a very good connection with almost everyone in that class room. We used to have so much fun together, never study, always play games (or fill scrap books when we were in 10th), always ahead in ALL extra curricular activities (no wonder all my teachers were surprised when I scored really well in my 10

I found an answer

Some time back I wrote another post regarding the whole Green is Universal thing. Really, I always wondered inspite of so many reasons why don't we have public transportation in this country. And now I found my answer....I should have thought about it though, quite obvious.... population density!!! The population density of this country is so low that it makes no sense in having public transportation.

South Carolina results

Some time back I also wrote a post about Bobby Jindal's run for the Governor's post in Louisiana. The same thing happened again in South Carolina last week, a southern (and Republican) state faced with the difficult question of choosing from either a white female or a black male (a.k.a. Hillary vs. Obama)..... And they chose Obama, which I thought was surprising. I thought a southern state would rather go for Hillary who has the support of her hubby Bill than vote for Obama. I think Obama has successfully portrayed himself as the change that America needs so badly. So much so that a southern Repblican state like South Carolina sees a record breaking primary turn out and then choose Obama by a huge margin. If I am not wrong this has been his biggest victory over Clinton so far. He is really good and charismatic, but I still want Hillary to be the next Prez. No....Not because she is a woman, but because I completely support her Universal Health Plan..... I really want her to w

Amazing waterfront home

Image
Some time back I wrote a post expressing how I would prefer to buy a condo in a high rise instead of a house. My other dream is to buy a waterfront house (or maybe just get married in one !!!). I love the idea of having a waterfront home that has floor-ceiling glass walls. Finally my parents managed to get something similar done in our 6th floor apartment. That is one house that I really love. My parents did an amazing job with it.... Anyways, getting back on track.... I was watching a show on HGTV called Amazing Waterfront Homes and all the houses in that episode were amazing. But there was one that caught my attention the most. A small house in California, off of Hwy 1 (you already know its beautiful...), has the same grass on its roof as is surrounding it and of course the glass walls. These walls are so beautiful that when you climb the hill and walk towards the house you can see through the house at the other end and see the ocean !!! How can it get any better???? But it does....

A beautiful quote that I read...

In the end everything will be OK If it is not OK then it is not the end.....

If you pray for courage, Does God give you courage, Or does He give you an opportunity to be courageous? ---- Morgan Freeman in Evan Almighty

OK..So I did it!!!

I actually put on my ski jacket and walked all the way to the mail box just to walk in snow and take some pics....I am really crazy!!! Well, I needed to check my mail anyways.....So here are some pics I took.... enjoy!!

Snow in Lawrenceville

It snowed in Lawrenceville, after soooo many years. This is the first time I am actually seeing snow...I mean I have seen snow, even in India, but I have never been there when it is snowing......So I was pretty excited this morning....I am also thinking about walking outside and checking my mail :-) just for fun........ and take some pics maybe...... will post them if I do. What a way to start your day :-) :-) :-)

Another Song Post

I know you must be thinking I am crazy.....I am....kinda.... I am in a no work mood right now and in a completely musical mood.... When I was in India I would find the time every once in a while to listen to music and not do anything else, which is very uncommon of me.....I am always multi-tasking.....I cannot just sit and watch TV....I have to have something else in my hand.....When I am working, music is always playing in the background. So I am not necessarily listening to it every time.... Every once in a while though I like to sit and listen and hum (I am a terrible singer, anyone will vouch for that, so this has to be done when I am alone!!) and not do anything else. I haven't done this ever since I moved to the US. Today I am in that mood and humming some old songs form this forgotten movie "papa kehte hai".... Remember Jugal Hansraj and Mayuri Kango and white Seychelles beaches, ghar se nikalte hi??? Anyways, this post is not about Papa Kehte Hai though.... Its ab

How do you choose your career????

I recently read this news that said universities are considering charging students different tuition based on their major.... I was aghast.....So basically we will be telling students field XYZ has the most tuition because it is the hottest field right now and pays huge salaries etc.....I always believed that you should pursue your interest and money and success will follow..... I remember sitting in Starbucks at 3rd St in LA and arguing with Amar about this. He believed exactly the opposite and with the same conviction that I had......If you really like something and put enough effort into it, of course you have to be successful. How can you not be? But maybe everybody's definition of success is different.......Most people measure success in money and power...There are some fools like me who think success == satisfaction, respect and personal growth. But isn't that true???? It is frustrating.......If you are in a field because it pays you a lot and you have no passion whatsoe

Bubble baths ...

..... make me feel guilty, for using all that water....... Immediately the image of a bunch of Rajasthani women walking in the desert with a tower of handis on their head to fetch water comes to my mind.....

Serendipity

The weirdest thing happened today. I was trying to call a school friend of mine and she didn't pick up. The voice mail said the number was 503 something...I was dialing 770 something ... Weird??? It gets better .... Finally after trying a couple of times someone answered. I asked for my friend and the gal at the other end sounded confused, so I introduced myself .... and surprise!!! The gal who answered the phone was another school friend of mine ..... What do you say now??? So all three of us studied at the same school, came to the US and now got in touch with each other in this weird way .... How often do you dial one number to call one friend, get another number and the other number turns out to be your other friend from the same group???? Weird or what ???

Nobody loves to sleep.....

........ as much as I do..Not even my dad :-) Especially in winter.....In winter I hibernate like a bear!!! Got up this morning feeling like Rip Van Winkle......I think I slept like 10 hrs last night.....If any of my students read this, they are going to curse me for all the sleepless nights they have to spend !!! Sorry guys...I had my turn!

Back to Eating Salad :-(

Well, here I am....Holidays are over and I am back to eating salads and watching movies before falling asleep. Living alone is great, but eating alone sucks big time......Still I had wonderful 3 weeks with great friends......Lots of laughter and lots of giggling :-) To "More happy Holidays"...Cheers!

My First Skiing Trip

My colleague goes to Smoky Mountains and does not get to ski as there's no snow....And I go to Alabama (2 1/2 hrs only :-)) and get to ski.....Isn't that great....We didn't think we would get to ski this season, but hey....lucky us!!! It snowed during the last holiday weekend and we went skiing....Not that I succeeded in learning how to ski, but I tried. And that's enough to keep me happy. Check out this video!!!! I am sure you'll wanna go skiing too.

Best Compliment I Ever Received

Why should I worry? I have you !!!
