Do you know what it means to miss new orleans?
Courtesy Louis Armstrong:
Do you know what it means to miss New Orleans
I miss it both night and day
I know that it's wrong... this feeling's gettin' stronger
The longer, I stay away
Miss them moss covered vines...the tall sugar pines
Where mockin' birds used to sing
And I'd like to see that lazy Mississippi...hurryin' into spring
The moonlight on the bayou.......a Creole tune.... that fills the air
I dream... of oleanders in June...and soon I'm wishin'that you were there
Do you know what it means to miss New Orleans
And that's where I left my heart
And there's something more...I miss the one I care for
More than I miss New Orleans
The city sure has a hold on you...... I visited again after 2 years. It felt as if I had never left!! Everything was still so familiar, welcoming and friendly. Of course this time I visited some places that I had never been to before. First of all we decided to skip our favorite Marriott and stay at a Bed and Breakfast near French Quarter.... great decision!! Beautiful house, great food and a short lovely walk to the quarter. I have tons of pictures of St. Louis Cathedral from all possible angles, but went inside for the first time during this trip. It's a beautiful church that has Spanish architectural influence. Hadn't been to any so-called fine dining restaurants as a student before, so got that checked off my list this time making sure that the place had live Jazz music.... Although every third restaurant here has live music, it doesn't really have to be Jazz. To listen to some good Jazz you have to do a bit of research. Skipped Hookah lounge...ex-favorite!! But did not skip Lebanon's!!! Took a street car all the way to Uptown... That also allowed us to visit Tulane's campus and catch up with Ms. Toni and Anu... If I had planned this better, I would have actually been able to meet some more people on campus... can't believe I didn't stop to greet Ms. Jeannette in the library. The rain didn't help. Maybe next time!!! Lucky for Shreyas, we actually caught glimpse of a parade. Although not as great as a Mardi Gras parade, it was a good preview.. I am sure Shreyas won't mind visiting in February next year :-)
