Excellent end to an amazing run

The best year end so far.... ever!!! Our admin assistant emailed me before I left in December and wished me a wedding of my dreams... "May it be everything you wished for" were her exact words, which made me realize that I had not wished it to be anything!!! That's how I am about most things, usually the most important things. I always take them one step at a time... When I took GRE, I didn't think about what schools I wanted to apply to until I got my scores, when I left India I hadn't really planned exactly what I was going to do after landing in US... Similarly, I hadn't really thought about the wedding as such at all.... Maybe that made it so much fun... Since there were no expectations, there was no pressure and there was no disappointment. I perfectly enjoyed the time I spent with Anu (that was after a long time!!!! I was hardly there for her wedding!!!) and of course also with Swati and Sheetal Tai. I do hate to see my parents so stressed out, but I have learned that that's their way of making sure everything is perfect (and I mean, really perfect!!) and my intervention usually makes it worse for them.

I did imagine the D-Day to be slow and tiring though.... I thought it would be a long day!!! But it wasn't. It went by so quickly that I wished I had more time to meet with the guests. Well, I don't think that happens in anyone's wedding (in India). We love to invite everyone and feed them, even if we are too busy to talk to them :-)

Our next destination was Cancun and Shreyas couldn't have picked up a better place for our honeymoon than this. I am what I call an un-American traveler/vacationer. I like bang for my buck. When I travel I like to visit as many places as possible and do as many things as possible. So Europe is my kind of place, beaches are not.. or rather were not...... I can't just laze around on a beach and do nothing.... That's not my idea of a vacation. I like to be tired when I return from my vacation. Tired from site-seeing :-) So I was a little hesitant about Cancun.... unsure of what we could visit there!!! As I found out Cancun is an excellent place for any kind of vacationer. We did everything from lazing on the beach and getting a sun tan, to visiting Mayan ruins, clubbing, visiting an ecological park and watching traditional Mexican dances and equestrian shows.... 2009 couldn't have ended better and 2010 couldn't have begun better!!!!

Looking back at 2009 and beyond, this run was great; graduation (finally!!!), job (thank God no post docs!!), house (can't believe I met someone who agreed to live in a high-rise!!), wedding and vacations (he also loves to travel!!! and has a job that supports travel:-))..... I have checked quite a few things off my wish list. I thought wish lists had items that you wanted to do but couldn't do... I think I need to make a new wish list :-) for the new run that's just begun!!!
